ABOUT SPINNAKERS - SYMMETRICAL (SPI) and ASYMMETRICAL (MPS - Multi-Purpose-Spinnaker)

Our Spinnakers and MPS designs are :

Tri-Radial Radial Head Starcut

The Starcut is a flatter cut sail and is often used as a second spi for more onwind course, when a classical full spinnaker is no longer effective.

The Radial Head and Tri-Radial cuts are fuller cuts and, with their wider shoulders, can be flown well on more downwind courses.

AREAS :

The standard MPS (asymmetrical) area calculation is as follows :

I x J x 1.44 = Area

The standard Spinnaker (symmetrical) area calculation is as follows :

I x J x 1.62 = Area

COLOURS :

Up to 3 colours are included in the standard price for spinnakers and MPS. For more than 3 colours there is an additional 10% charge.

See the Spinnaker colour list at the Measurement Sheet for the colours normally available.

We cannot guarantee that we will always have all colours of spinnaker cloth in stock and will do our best to meet your designs.

The panel layout for the various spinnaker sizes and cuts will be provided with your quote.

SOCK :

Our spinnaker sock is designed for ease of use for lowering a spi or MPS. It is designed with 2 full length pockets, one for the spi and one for the up- and downhaul line; a coloured full length stripe, so as to check that the sock is not twisted; and an adequately large ring, so that it can be pulled over the shoulders of the spi with relative ease. (see Figs. 1,2 and 3 and the more detailed diagrams in Info and Tips - Setting and Gybing an MPS).

These design features make the use of the spi sock as fast and easy as possible and enhance your enjoyment of spi sailing.
